Who We Are
Lucky Honeybee creates thoughtfully designed, eco-friendly candles, soaps, and apothecary goods — made with good ingredients, good intention, and a little bit of magic. From our Jersey City studio, we keep batches small, ingredients fresh, and our footprint as light as possible.
We source domestically produced wax, use ethically harvested oils, and choose recycled materials for our packaging. We sweat the details so you don't have to. Life is hard. We make stuff that makes you feel good.
Our Story
Lucky Honeybee started the way the best things do — out of curiosity and a little frustration.
Founder Melissa Glick loved candles and lotions, but kept getting headaches from mass-produced fragrances. She wanted to know what was actually in them. Being both environmentally minded and a natural DIYer, she started researching ingredients, testing formulas, and falling in love with the process.
When it came time to choose wedding favors when she was engaged in 2010, the answer was obvious: make something her guests would actually use. She tested batch after batch until she'd perfected an eco-friendly soy candle that smelled like a dream. Her guests loved them — and kept asking for more. Lucky Honeybee was born.
Well over a decade later, the line has grown from artisan candles to handmade soap and a full range of apothecary goods. The ethos hasn't changed: small batches, clean ingredients, and products crafted with care in our Jersey City studio.
The Name - The Mythology
In Greek mythology, a mountain nymph named Melissa saved the infant Zeus from being devoured by his father Cronos. She nurtured him and fed him honey, but when Cronos discovered what she'd done, he turned her into a worm. Zeus, heartbroken and unable to reverse the curse, transformed her into a honeybee instead. From that day forward, the honeybee was regarded as a sacred messenger of the gods.
Glick, Melissa's married name is derived from the German and Yiddish word for luck.
Lucky Honeybee is a tribute to both: a name steeped in mythology, heritage, and just a touch of sweetness.
Visit Us
In August 2020, Lucky Honeybee opened its first retail space in the Heights neighborhood of Jersey City. The shop carries our full line alongside a carefully curated selection of apothecary goods, eco-friendly products, greeting cards, home décor, and gifts. There's something for everyone.
